What is Dermamelan?
Dermamelan® peel is a medium depth skin peel that utilises organic acids to remove and suppress melanin, the cells that cause pigmentation and is only available in medical clinics.
Dermamelan peel is highly effective for treating chloasma/melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and sun damage.
Treatment details:
Dermamelan® combines in-clinic application and a complete homecare regime to dramatically reduces hormonal pigmentation and effectively evens out skin tone on any skin type and colour.
The Dermamelan® formula features a unique combination of active ingredients that act on all phases of the hyperpigmentation process. It treats existing hyperpigmentation and prevents its reappearance, as well as the appearance of new spots.
Depending on your initial skin condition, you may see your unwanted pigmentation start to fade away, and a brighter complexion revealed as soon as one week after your treatment. With continuing use of the home care regime, the pigmentation will continue to fade and help prevent the reoccurrence of unwanted pigmentation. Post-treatment, you will notice the added benefits include better-hydrated skin, reduced pore size, regulated sebum production and a general rejuvenation of the skin’s surface. It is crucial to use sunscreen when outdoors.
According to results commissioned by Mesoestetic, in 99% of cases involving blemishes or abnormal hyperpigmentation, the blemish elimination process achieved a 95% efficacy rate. In some cases, you may need more than one treatment to achieve desired results. Our practitioners will work closely with you to recommend the required number of treatments to meet your expectations.
Your Dermamelan® treatment begins at the clinic and takes approximately 45-60 minutes to complete. Your face is prepped and cleaned, and then the peel is applied. The Dermamelan® facial mask is applied evenly to your face and will remain in place for 8-12 hours depending on your skin type and is best applied in the morning.
Once you have reached the end of your development time, you will then remove the mask. Your therapist will provide you with instructions on how to remove the mask at home. Most people will experience some redness and swelling the following day that usually settles in a couple of days. You will also begin to experience peeling or shedding of the skin, ranging from light flaking through to heavier peeling. At this point, you will have also started your home care program, which continues the depigmentation treatment.
Dermamelan® is popular for full facial treatments. However, it is also suitable for treating areas of the body that suffer from sun damage, such as the arms, chest and shoulders where dark spots and freckles appear.
No, the peel is not painful when it is applied to the skin. Once washed off, it is not uncommon to experience some heat in the skin, similar to a mild sunburn that usually settles within a day or two.
As Dermamelan® is a non-invasive procedure, the treatment is safe. The unique blend of ingredients does not rely on skin-bleaching agents, making the treatment suitable for almost all skin types. However, it is not suitable for pregnant women or if you have an active skin infection or an allergy to any of the ingredients.
While there is always some risk with any cosmetic procedure, side effects associated with Dermamelan® are rare. Our qualified practitioners will assess your medical history, discuss all possible risks and complications with you to ensure you are suitable for this treatment.
Dermamelan® has been proven safe for all skin types. The treatment is designed for those with particularly severe pigmentation; it can also be used by those with minor pigmentation or sun damage looking for a quick fix. Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers.
The downtime will vary between individuals. Most people will find that the peeling and redness lasts around 5-7 days. Those people who have a stronger reaction may find their downtime lasts a little bit longer.
Dermamelan is a very safe procedure delivering excellent results. However, some common side effects can occur:
- Tightness: 5-6 days after your Dermamelan cream mask is removed, your skin can feel tight and may appear swollen.
- Skin Peeling: it is normal to experience some level of peeling of your skin within the first 7 to 21 days. This can vary from patient to patient, and you may want to consider booking a few days off from work. The peeling can persist during your treatment course, but this usually starts to settle as the skin begins to build up a tolerance.
Dermamelan® is more effective than the Cosmelan peel. It is 30% stronger than Cosmelan and can only be used in medical clinics.
