Your ultimate wedding skincare regime

Your ultimate wedding skincare regime by Bondi Junction Cosmetic Clinic

Okay, the buzz of your engagement is starting to settle, and it’s now time to get into wedding planning mode and the nitty-gritty of looking fantastic on your big day! We’ll help plan your wedding beauty regimen so you can feel and look your best as you walk down the aisle. It’s also a great way to practice some self-care, allowing you to de-stress ahead of your nuptials.

Our team is here to help you achieve your skincare goals, whether that’s reducing acne, increasing collagen or elastin, improving texture and pigmentation or simply hydrating your skin. We recommend you come in for a VISIA skin analysis to kick things off. This cutting-edge technology provides a thorough analysis and visual assessment of your skin to identify any concerns with aging, pigmentation, problematic skin, texture and more. Your skin analysis results will be reviewed and discussed with you to determine what concerns you may want to address as part of your wedding skincare regime and what treatment options are recommended by our team of experts.

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; our clinicians and nurses will tailor a treatment plan to suit your concerns and goals. However, here is an example of what your wedding skincare regime could look like.

Six to 12 months in advance

First time trying injectables

According to Nurse Kellie, our expert cosmetics injector, the best thing to do is give yourself as much time as possible. “In an ideal world, I would have clients come in as early as a year before their wedding to create a plan—that way, we can discuss what you’d like to achieve and work together to ensure that you will have the best results on the day. Ultimately, more time equals more options for you, not only just in terms of procedures but, importantly, in terms of downtime and cost,” she adds. But, of course, not all weddings are planned a year out. In these cases, Nurse Kellie recommends coming in at least six months in advance for an initial consult and injectable treatments. “While my general rule of thumb is the more time, the better, six months is a decent amount of time for me to understand your expectations and goals and also see how your skin responds to the treatment,” she explains.

Six Months Before

Improve skin texture and clarity

If you are dealing with active acne, it’s best to work with our clinicians to create a plan to keep your blemishes at bay. The good news is that there are many treatment options that can be tailored to your condition and skin type to improve the appearance of acne, clogged pores, skin texture, and scarring.

Acnelan Peel

The Acnelan peel is a deep cleansing treatment featuring a unique combination of active acne-fighting ingredients. In addition to the in-clinic peels, results are best achieved utilising a course of specially formulated home care products that are provided. The home care regime also targets acne triggers and prevents a recurrence after the peel course is complete. The skincare maintenance regime is continued at home for three months. This helps to optimise the results of the in-clinic treatment and reduces the frequency and severity of future breakouts.

Healite LED II therapy

Healite LED II therapy treatments can be added to most treatments as it speeds up the healing process and reduces bacteria and inflammation in the skin; perfect for acne-prone and all skin types and conditions.

Laser treatments

We also have several laser treatments that effectively treat acne scarring and improve skin texture. The Co2 CoolPeel laser produces excellent results with minimal downtime. Other lasers may be suitable if you have more time for recovery before the wedding. Our clinicians can recommend the ideal laser treatment for your concerns and timeline.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

RF Microneedling is an innovative treatment for skin tightening and rejuvenation, utilising a combination of radiofrequency and microneedling to encourage collagen production and tighten elastin fibres. This may be the ideal treatment for you if you have concerns with scarring, wrinkles, enlarged pores, sagging, or pigmentation.

Reducing pigmentation and sun damage

If your primary concern is erasing sun spots or hyperpigmentation before your wedding, we have a range of highly effective treatments that can help. We may recommend one of our medical-grade laser treatments. They send pulses of highly concentrated light to the affected area, penetrating the skin to destroy the hyperpigmentation. This results in the hyperpigmentation spot turning into a scab, flaking off, and revealing brighter, more even-toned skin underneath. Depending on how severe the scarring is, we may recommend a few laser treatments before your wedding day to achieve optimal results. Because of this, we recommend coming in for a laser consultation about four to six months before your wedding. This gives us enough time to assess how your skin reacts to the treatments and gauge how long the downtime will be for your particular skin type while also having the flexibility to tweak the treatments as needed.

One Month Before the Wedding

Come in for your final injectables appointment

Every person’s timeline is unique to their skin type and nurse’s advice, but generally speaking, your final injectables appointment should be made no less than one month before your wedding day. That way, the treatment will have settled into your skin while still giving a little bit of time to heal if swelling or bruising occurs.

Don’t start any new treatments or products.

During the final weeks leading up to your wedding day, you should avoid trying new products or treatments to prevent irritation or flare-ups. The last thing you need a few weeks before your wedding is a bad reaction to something new you tried. So just keep using products that work for you.

One Week Before the Wedding

Have your final facial treatment

One week before your wedding is ideal for your final facial. The last treatment should focus on keeping the skin hydrated and healthy and avoid any kind of extractions or peels that might leave the skin red or irritated.

HydraFacial

We recommend the popular HydraFacial. It is a medical-grade facial that improves texture, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, oiliness and congested pores. It’s a four-step facial treatment designed to cleanse, exfoliate, extract debris from your pores and hydrate your skin for a clean and healthy glow. There are 3 Hydrafacial options: Platinum, Deluxe and Signature Hydrafacial. The Signature Hydrafacial takes approximately 30 minutes and includes four easy steps: cleanse, peel, extract and hydrate. There is no recovery time, and skin feels clean and hydrated. Customisable boosters can also be added to your HydraFacial for extra brightening and glowing skin so your skin will look flawless on your big day. No wonder celebs love this treatment before a red carpet event!

Ditch acids and focus on hydration

To avoid any possible skin irritation on the day of your wedding, we may recommend that you stop using exfoliators or retinoids about a week before your wedding. Acids and retinoids can trigger flakiness, dry patches, and irritation. Just to be safe, holding off the week before is an easy way to avoid a crisis on the day of your wedding. We suggest opting for hydrating and calming serums, essences, or toners to soothe and quench the skin.

We love Mesoestetic’s Collagen 360 essence serum. It’s light in texture and enriched with marine collagen and peptides to help lift and firm the skin.

Day Before the Wedding

Prepare the perfect canvas

For your big day, your skin care should focus on delivering layers of hydration and soothing ingredients to your complexion. The ideal base for wedding makeup is calm, moisturised, and firm skin. That way, the makeup artist can focus on enhancing your natural glow rather than concealing or correcting. Look for products that provide deep hydration, such as hyaluronic acid, or ingredients that support your skin’s natural barrier.

Day of the Wedding

Look for water-based skincare

The goal for the day is to ensure that your makeup photographs well, lasts throughout the day and requires minimal touch-ups. We recommend preparing the skin with water-based skin care rather than oil or silicone-heavy products. Water-based formulas provide a lightweight, non-greasy feel while deeply quenching the skin and locking down the pigment of your foundation. They are also less likely to pill or separate your makeup so that you can apply layers of product on top without interruption.

We love Mesoestetic’s HA Densimatrix. This hydrating solution includes hyaluronic acid and provides deep hydration and plumping fine lines and wrinkles.

And most importantly, enjoy your special day! The goal is to embrace your unique beauty while using the months leading up to your wedding to get your skin in peak condition. We want you to feel confident to let your bridal glow shine!
